About the Edition

From Note to the Second Edition:
"The new edition of this book remains much the same but for three things. The first is the change in title. The original title was derived from Richard Neustadt"s classic treatment of the presidency, in which he described the powerof the most powerful person in our governmentas no more than the power to persuade. Alas, the title proved too cryptic for some; hence The Bureaucratic Entrepreneur, a title that reflects more precisely what this book is about.
The second change is the addition of considerable new material that reflects the Clinton years. The third and final set of changes is reflected in the additions to the section "Suggestions for Further Reading". [...]"

Weber was in no doubt that the third type of leadership was the most efficient. The profit motive pushes every entrepreneur to accomplish those services that the consumers deem the most urgent. Haass has held a number of positions in previous government administrations, including at the NSC and the Defense and State Departments. This backward perspective creates a conflict with entrepreneurs and innovators who prefer forward-looking concepts and attempt to identify ways in which processes could be improved.

In regular life it sucks, but in a starry-eyed entrepreneur's life, it can make that good old American Dream turn nightmarish. Roosevelt, also inwhereby many social programs helped the United States to recover from the Great Depression. It is often considered to be synonymous with redundancy, arbitrariness, and inefficiency. Headquarters gives the branch manager a free hand to operate his concern as he sees fit so long as he returns a profit. Read more. North: Those for Whom You Work -- 4.

I highly recommend it for any individual who works in a bureaucratic organization. The proposals for improving relations even though differences will remain and the development of the European Union will complicate matters are modest and sensible. Each of these, he claimed, can generate obedience, but each is suitable for a different stage in an organisation's development. To 'increase output' and 'minimize production time' are concepts that cannot be applied to something like a police department. East: Those with Whom You Work -- 6. Bureaucratic administration means fundamentally the exercise of control on the basis of knowledge.
